Murmura Chivda / A snack with puffed rice

Murmura / puffed rice chivda is easy to make snack with puffed rice. A healthy snack to serve with afternoon tea. Days are getting longer here in Chennai. It is the peak of summer and kids are at home for summer vacation. And I am making healthy snacks for them with afternoon tea. I made a dry snack with flattened rice and it was a super hit. Today its chivda with murmura. It is easy to make and can be done in less than 10 minutes


Ingredients

  • 1 Cup puffed rice
  • 1 Teaspoon Oil
  • 2 Tablespoon Ground nuts / peanuts
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Onion Seeds / Kalonji
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1 Sun dried chilli
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 Sprigs of curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste

Directions

1. Add puffed rice to a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds. set aside
2. In a frying pan, heat oil. When the oil is hot, add peanuts and fry them on low flame till they splutter / till they change color to light golden
3. Remove the peanuts and place them on a paper towel
4. In the remaining oil add curry leaves, onion seeds, sun dried chilli, dry red chilli and fry them for few seconds
5. Switch off the flame and add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, pepper and immediately add
puffed rice. Give it a nice stir and mix everything together
6. Cool completely and serve with cup of tea
