Onion Pakora / Onion Fritters

Onion Pakora are crispy fritters made with thinly sliced onion, ginger , chillies and gram flour. They are crispy on the outside and served as a tea time snack. They can be served as an appetizer too. I made onion pakoras for pakorae wali Kadhi. Kadhi is a yogurt based gravy and I added these pakoras in the yogurt sauce. Left over Pakoras we had at tea time



Ingredients

  • 2 Medium Sized Onions sliced thinly
  • 1 inch Ginger piece - peeled and chopped finely
  • 1 Green Chilli chopped finely
  • 5 curry leaves chopped finely
  • 1 Tablespoon Cilantro Leaves chopped finely
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 Tablespoon Besan
  • 1 Teaspoon Red chilli Powder ( my kids don't eat spicy fritters. My fritters were mildly spiced. Please adjust according to your taste)
  • 1 pinch of Hing
  • 1 Tablespoon water for mixing
  • Oil For deep frying 

Directions

1. In a mixing bowl, add sliced onions, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves , cilantro leaves and using a spoon mix it gently

                             


2. Add besan, salt, red chilli powder, hing to the onions and mix them gently with a spoon

3. I just sprinkled little water so that the mixture holds shape for frying. Sprinkle water to the mixture such that the mixture is just wet and not runny. If it is runny, you can add more besan to make it thick

                           


4. In a wok, heat oil for deep frying

5. Take a spoonful of onion mixture and using another spoon, slide the mixture gently into the hot oil

6. Add 4 to 5 pakoras into oil at a time. You need to be extra careful when you slide the spoonful of mixture in the oil. It might splutter sometimes. Stay back and gently drop the mixture in oil

                              


7. Fry until the pakoras are light golden. Turn side and fry on the other side also
                 
                                 


8. Remove them from oil and drain it on a paper towel

9. Serve hot with a cup of coffee / tea
