Kanda Poha

Poha / Beaten or Flattened rice flakes is one of the most popular breakfast dish in Maharashtra. It is also a popular street food in UP. You can see these street vendors with poha and they top off poha with fresh onions, tomato, sev and spices. Poha with tea is a most preferred breakfast in many households.

 



Kanda poha is a preparation of poha with lots of onions, green chilli , ginger and garlic. It is very east to prepare and can be done in 15 minutes with just few  ingredients. Totally healthy snack / breakfast that tastes delicious.

                                


Ingredients 

  • 1 Cup Poha
  • 1 Medium Sized Onion Chopped finely
  • 1/2 Inch piece Ginger Chopped finely
  • 4 Garlic cloves chopped finely
  • 1 Green Chilli Chopped finely
  • 1 Teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped cilantro leaves for garnish 

Directions 

1. Wash Poha ,  squeeze and drain water completely. Set aside

                           


                        

2. In a pan over medium heat add oil. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and wait for them to splutter

3. Then add ginger , garlic, Green Chilli and sauté for seconds

                           

4. Add onions and salt and fry until the onions are soft

5. Add turmeric powder and give it a good stir. If you like it spicy, you can add 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder along with turmeric powder

6. Add poha and mix everything together

                          

                          

7. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve hot with a cup of tea for breakfast or as a evening snack. If you like, you can even sprinkle juice of half lemon over the poha and mix it and serve
